Spiral Sculpture – Verdigris & Gold Bronze, Zinc, Steel

Minimalist in form yet rich in movement, the Spiral Sculpture is a refined expression of balance and flow. Hand-forged at our Wolds Farm studio, each piece rises in a smooth, continuous curve, capturing a quiet sense of energy and rhythm. Available in oxidised steel, zinc, or luxurious bronze, the sculpture may be finished in verdigris, traditional dark bronze, or polished bronze, with each material offering its own depth, character, and longevity. Whether displayed as a singular statement or in a curated arrangement, the Spiral Sculpture brings calm sophistication and enduring elegance to both contemporary and traditional settings.

The Spiral Sculpture is offered in three considered sizes, each proportioned to preserve the integrity, balance, and flow of the form:
150 cm × 50 cm diameter (59 in × 20 in diameter)
300 cm × 70 cm diameter (118 in × 28 in diameter)
450 cm × 100 cm diameter (177 in × 39 in diameter).

Each scale offers a distinct presence — from refined garden placement to bold architectural and landmark installations. Bespoke sizes and proportions are also available upon request, allowing the sculpture to be tailored precisely to its setting and architectural context.

Verdigris & Gold Spiral Sculpture

The Spiral Sculpture — A Stunning Blend of Modern Elegance and Vintage CraftsmanshipMinimalist yet captivating, the Spiral Sculpture exudes elegance with an unapologetically modern design and a vintage twist. The creation process begins with a simple, old-fashioned pencil sketch by Charles in his studio, where every idea starts to take shape on paper. This hand-drawn design defines the details, sizes, and dimensions before any metal is touched. Crafted from raw 8mm flat sheet mild steel, the spiral begins as a plain, lifeless sheet.

Charles and the team carefully calculate the lengths needed for each sculpture size, then cut the sheet into elongated triangular pieces. When necessary, these sheets are joined before the magic truly begins. The precisely cut triangles are fed through large vintage rollers—a task often requiring four team members due to the weight and size of the pieces. This rolling process, which can involve five or six passes, transforms the flat steel into stunning curves, corkscrews, and waves.

Two corkscrew-shaped pieces are then artfully paired to create the sculpture’s final form and mounted on a base designed to be hidden once installed. Next, the sculpture undergoes sandblasting to ensure a flawless finish, regardless of the chosen surface treatment.

Finishing options include:Luxurious rustic patina: a rich orangey tone that adds warmth and character. Hot zinc galvanising: offering longevity and a sleek silvery-grey finish. Hand-painted finishes: such as traditional verdigris and gold, or contemporary matte black and copper. Custom powder coat colours: available from the full RAL colour chart for a personal touch. With a variety of sizes, patterns, and finishes available, the Spiral Sculpture is a versatile and popular choice—bringing a sculptural statement to virtually any garden or outdoor space.

Sculpture Specification

The sculpture may be commissioned in steel or bronze, with the choice of material and finish guided entirely by personal preference and the character of its intended setting.

In steel, finishes include a refined oxidised patina, where the surface is protected from within and allowed to develop a quiet, architectural presence through natural exposure, as well as hot-dipped zinc and professionally applied painted finishes in a considered palette of tonal, metallic, and luxury surface treatments.

In bronze, the sculpture may be finished in patination: Verdigris Bronze, Traditional Dark Bronze, or Polished Bronze, each individually patinated and hand-finished to achieve depth, warmth, and a surface that will mature beautifully over time.

Both materials are crafted with the same level of care and intention, allowing the sculpture to be tailored precisely to its environment — whether architectural, landscape-led, contemporary, or traditional.
