Full of rural charm and sculptural detail, our Blackface Sheep Sculpture celebrates traditional British farming heritage. Hand-forged in steel at our countryside studio, each piece captures the distinctive features of this iconic breed — from its sturdy stance to the characteristic curled horns and textured fleece.
Finished in a rustic or galvanised patina, it is designed to stand proudly in gardens, meadows, or alongside country pathways, weathering gracefully over time. A heartfelt tribute to the pastoral landscape, this sculpture brings personality, craftsmanship, and a touch of the hills to any outdoor space.
Whether you’re after a single sheep or a whole flock, these charming yet lifelike Sheep sculptures make a delightful addition to any countryside-loving or farming-inspired home. Perfect for driveways, gardens, flower beds, or lawns. Charles has spent years studying, observing, and understanding the unique characteristics of these majestic animals, bringing each sculpture to life individually — meaning no two are exactly the same. The process always begins the same way: with simple old-fashioned pencil to paper.
This is where Charles’ ideas first take shape. A hand-drawn sketch in his studio captures the animal’s movement, character, and lifelike qualities before sizes, measurements, and dimensions are finalised. Once complete, Charles transfers the sketch onto the large metal footplate in the studio using artist’s chalk. The chalk drawing can remain on the floor for up to a week while Charles carefully edits, alters, and refines it until entirely satisfied. With the sketch perfected, the outline of the sculpture is hand-bent from 8mm or 10mm mild steel bar, ensuring all curves are accurate before welding the frame together and standing it upright.
At this stage, with each leg correctly positioned, the body outline is seen at full size — a crucial moment when Charles and the team can identify any imperfections or challenges the sculpture may present. Next, smaller 6mm or 8mm mild steel bars are hand-bent into swirls and patterns, creating muscle definition, fleece depth, movement, and character. This is where the sculpture truly comes to life. As Charles and the team infill the structure, the body, limbs, facial features, and extraordinary muscle tones begin to emerge, crafting a one-of-a-kind piece.
Once the main body is complete, finer details such as the tail, small horns, nose, ears, and eyes are painstakingly handcrafted — often employing traditional blacksmithing techniques using a 1920s power hammer, forge, and anvil to add further magic to the sculptures. These details are some of the reasons why each sculpture is unique. While the rustic patina finish is available for all our sculptures, we usually favour the luxurious hot zinc galvanised finish. This not only provides exceptional longevity thanks to its anti-rust properties but also lends the sculpture an elevated sense of quality — a finish truly fit to admire.
