One of our most illustrious creations — the Swift Sphere Sculpture.
Available in a variety of sizes, patterns, styles, and finishes, this popular sphere suits virtually any garden or outdoor space. Designed and handcrafted by Charles Elliott Sculpture from mild steel, it features a luxurious progressive Verdigris aged bronze exterior paired with a glowing gold gilt interior. Each piece is initially hot zinc galvanised to protect against nature and rust for over 30 years.
“Each sail piece is individually textured and finished with a luxurious patina by hand,” says designer Charles.
Inspired by nature, the sculpture boasts a weather-aged patina on the outside contrasted with a vibrant gold interior. Perfect as a striking garden focal point or an elegant interior feature, it can also be scaled down and internally illuminated to suit your space.
One of our most illustrious sculptures:The Swift Sphere SculptureThe journey of creating these captivating spheres begins the old-fashioned way — pencil to paper. Charles first hand-draws detailed sketches in his studio, carefully refining the design, sizes, and dimensions until perfectly envisioned. Once the design is finalized, “hanging basket” style mould frames are positioned on the foot plate, ready to support each individually hand-textured sail piece.
Each swift-shaped piece is precisely cut in various sizes and then heated to extraordinary temperatures. While still glowing hot, the team uses our 1920’s power hammer to hand-texture every piece, followed by fine shaping on the anvil to achieve the perfect form. These pieces are then carefully arranged around the mould, gradually forming the flawless spherical shape.
The sphere is crafted in two halves to ensure perfect symmetry. Once both halves are shaped, they are lifted from the moulds and carefully lowered to be welded and infilled, joining seamlessly. When assembly is complete and every detail approved, the sphere undergoes a meticulous sandblasting process, ensuring a pristine finish regardless of the chosen coating.
Finishing options include our signature rustic patina — delivering a rich orangey tone — or a hot zinc galvanised finish, prized for its longevity and elegant silvery-grey appearance. For added personalization, we offer a selection of hand-painted finishes, including the traditional verdigris & gold, as well as modern matte black and copper tones. Full powder coating from the RAL colour chart is also available for those wanting a bespoke look. With a variety of sizes, patterns, styles, and finishes, the Swift Sphere Sculpture remains a timeless and versatile choice — perfect for any garden or outdoor space.
