Our beautiful pair of touching penguins — because lifelong mates must stick together.
Charming, characterful, and full of personality, our Penguin Sculptures are a delightful addition to any outdoor space. Each penguin is individually hand-forged from mild steel using traditional blacksmithing techniques, giving every piece a unique expression and presence. With their upright stances, gently curved forms, and subtle detailing, these sculptures capture the endearing nature of these beloved birds. Whether placed side by side as a loving pair or dotted individually around the garden, they bring warmth, joy, and a touch of the wild to any landscape.
Available in a rustic patina or hot-dipped galvanised finish, they’re built to withstand the seasons — equally at home in a flower bed, beside a pond, or as a whimsical feature in any outdoor setting. A playful yet elegant celebration of nature, love, and traditional craftsmanship — the perfect match for any space.
Penguins mate for life, and this heartfelt pair was created to stand together forever — a true symbol of devotion and a match made in heaven. Designed to be admired in gardens, public spaces, or on driveways, this sculpture duo brings both charm and character to any setting. Each sculpture begins with the timeless approach of pencil to paper — the point where Charles’s vision first takes shape. Inside his studio, he hand-sketches each design, capturing the movement, posture, and unique personality of these majestic birds.
The drawing is then transferred in chalk onto the large steel footplate in the workshop, where it remains for up to a week — allowing time to adapt, refine, and perfect every line. Once satisfied, Charles begins bending 8mm or 10mm mild steel bar by hand, forming the frame of each penguin with precision and care. As the outline takes its upright form, the true scale and structure emerge — a pivotal moment for assessing proportions and ensuring perfect balance.
Then, using smaller sections of 6mm or 8mm steel bar, Charles and the team hand-shape the defining features: the curvature of the body, the gentle stance, and the intricate detailing of flippers, feet, and face. With each bend and weld, the sculptures come to life — layered with movement, emotion, and personality. Finer elements like the eyes, flippers, and subtle facial expressions are forged using traditional blacksmithing tools — from a vintage 1920s power hammer to a roaring forge and time-worn anvil.
These heritage techniques infuse each piece with character and authenticity, ensuring that no two sculptures are ever the same. Though available in our signature rustic patina, we particularly recommend the luxurious hot zinc galvanised finish for the penguins. Not only does this finish offer superb anti-rust protection and year-round resilience, but it enhances the form with a crisp, silvery tone — adding elegance to the emotional weight of this pair. A striking celebration of connection, craftsmanship, and timeless love — the Perfect Match penguins are sculptural storytelling at its most sincere.
