An equine sculpture that captures the true form, character, and presence of the horse. Designed by British sculptor Charles Elliott, the Horse Head Sculpture commands attention while remaining quietly refined.
Each piece is handcrafted by hand and available in bronze, steel, or zinc galvanised finishes, each offering its own depth, tone, and longevity. Mounted on a refined black steel plinth, subtle internal illumination through the muzzle enhances the sculpture’s form and atmosphere after dusk.
Available sizes: 120 cm (47 in), 200 cm (79 in), 400 cm (157 in), and 600 cm (236 in) — from elegant garden statement to monumental landmark installation. Bespoke dimensions and plinth heights are available upon request.
Equine luxury at its finest; this sculpture is not only a showstopper but it truly oozes character. Transforming stable areas, courtyards, homes, gardens, and driveways, it is a real statement piece for every location. Horses and ponies have played an enormous part in Charles’s family and life, due to his mother’s passion for horses alongside his own, with many years of Pony Club, competing, and travelling alongside some very high-end horses. Charles has been able to study, watch, and learn all the necessary characteristics to create these majestic sculptures, bringing life to each one individually — meaning no two sculptures are the same. The method by which this particular sculpture is created, and indeed even started, is simple old-fashioned pencil to paper — this is where his ideas begin to come to life.
A sketch will be hand-drawn by Charles within his studio, giving the animal movement, character, and life-like qualities prior to establishing sizes, measurements, and dimensions. Once the sketch is complete, it is transferred by Charles onto a very large metal foot plate in the studio using artist’s chalk. The chalk sketch can remain on the floor for up to a week whilst Charles edits, alters, and adapts the drawing until completely satisfied. Once happy, the outline of the sculpture is hand-bent using 10mm flat mild steel bar, ensuring all curves of the outline are correct prior to welding the pieces together to create the mould. The bare outline is then infilled using more flat mild steel bar to create the depth within the horse’s cheekbones, eye structure, and nasal flare.
This is the crucial moment where Charles and the team can identify any imperfections or complications the sculpture may present along the way. Each of the 6mm mild steel moon-shaped pieces are cut out, then piece by piece welded in meticulously as required. Each piece is carefully placed to create the muscle definition, depth, movement, and character of the horse.
This is truly where the sculpture comes to life; it is one of the most magical processes when creating our animalistic sculptures. We follow this method for both sides of the horse’s head, effectively giving us two half horse-head shells — almost lifeless until they are carefully lifted and welded into place. Once this is complete, finer details such as the nose, ears, and even the eyes are handcrafted with round mild steel bar. Some of the oldest blacksmithing methods come into play here — using our 1920s power hammer, forge, and anvil — to enhance the magic within the sculptures. Once all the pieces are carefully placed and the finer details in situ, the horse head sculpture is ready for the finishing process. All horse heads, no matter the final finish, undergo a full sandblasting process to ensure a smooth, immaculate surface.
The beautiful, timeless rustic patina is available, adding a stunning orangey-toned finish. Alternatively, we offer a hot zinc galvanised finish, which not only extends longevity but provides a lifelong stunning silvery-grey effect. We now even offer a hand-painted option in our very popular matte black and gold finish, which gives the horse’s head an extra touch of perfection. The option of an illumination kit is highly recommended with this sculpture. It is discreetly placed within the horse’s muzzle, making it almost invisible during daylight hours but creating a wonderful illumination effect when lit at nightfall. Plinths are available in sizes to suit your needs alongside the “standard” sizes listed above. We are also more than happy to assist should you wish to use alternative materials for the plinth.

The Horse Head sculpture is available in four considered sizes: 120 cm, 200 cm, 400 cm, and 600 cm (approximately 47 in, 79 in, 157 in, and 236 in).
Each scale offers a distinct presence, from intimate garden placement to monumental landmark installation, while preserving the strength and balance of the form.
Bespoke dimensions may also be commissioned, with plinth heights available at 15 cm, 60 cm, or 100 cm (approximately 6 in, 24 in, and 39 in), and further custom sizing available upon request.
Available in hot dipped zinc finish, as shown, where the surface is protected from within and permitted to develop a quiet, architectural patination through exposure to the elements.
Alternatively, the sculpture may be offered with an oxidised steel patina or professionally painted patinations in a refined palette of colours, including tonal, metallic, and luxury surface treatments. Each patination is chosen for its longevity, depth, and ability to weather with grace.
