Running Fox Sculpture

Graceful, alert, and quietly powerful — our handcrafted Fox Sculpture embodies the spirit of one of Britain’s most iconic woodland creatures. Forged by hand in our rural Hertfordshire workshop, each piece is meticulously shaped from solid steel using traditional blacksmithing techniques, lending it a lifelike presence and enduring strength.

With its poised stance and flowing tail, this sculpture bursts with character and motion, making it a captivating focal point for gardens, estates, and countryside homes. Available in your choice of rustic or galvanised finish, it weathers beautifully year-round — a timeless tribute to British wildlife and artisanal craftsmanship.

Rustic Patina Running Fox Sculpture

An ideal sculpture for any countryside or wildlife lover, designed to blend harmoniously with natural surroundings and enhance any garden or outdoor space. As foxes are a prolific part of Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire wildlife, Charles has carefully studied their movement and character to bring each sculpture to life—making every piece truly unique.

The creation process begins with old-fashioned pencil to paper, where Charles hand-draws detailed sketches in his studio, capturing the animal’s movement, character, and life-like qualities before determining size and dimensions. Once satisfied, the sketch is transferred with artist’s chalk onto the large metal foot plate in the studio, where it may remain for up to a week as Charles refines and adapts the design until perfect.

The outline is then hand-bent from 8mm or 10mm mild steel bar, ensuring all curves are accurate before welding the structure upright. At this stage, the sculpture’s true size and form become visible, allowing the team to identify and resolve any potential challenges.

Next, each 6mm or 8mm mild steel bar is carefully bent and cut to build muscle definition, depth, and dynamic movement—this is where the sculpture truly comes alive. The body structure, limbs, facial features, and intricate muscle details come together, creating a one-of-a-kind piece full of life. The finer details—such as the bushy tail, nose, and ears—are handcrafted using traditional blacksmithing tools including a 1920s power hammer, forge, and anvil, adding a touch of timeless magic to the sculpture.

For finishing, the Rustic Patina finish is developed with care using an in-house blend of natural, non-harmful solutions that encourage the signature warm orangey-brown patina, perfectly complementing the stunning outdoor settings where these sculptures live. Finally, the fox’s iconic white tail tip and chest markings are hand-applied, giving “Mr Fox” his distinctive and characterful flair.
