A work of your own

The pleasure of living with art made for you

A private commission is the most personal way to own a sculpture. It begins not with a catalogue but with a conversation about your space, your life and the feeling you want to come home to, and ends with an original that exists nowhere else and is yours alone.

Charles designs and makes every piece himself, with his small team, from the first sketch to the moment it is set in place. The hand that imagines your sculpture is the hand that makes it.

What you can commission

Handled, start to finish

Delivered and installed, in your own garden or space

Owning a Charles Elliott sculpture asks nothing of you but the enjoyment of it. We manage the entire journey from studio to setting, so the piece arrives and stands exactly as intended, with none of the logistics falling to you.

  • Full delivery and installation in your garden, courtyard, grounds or interior, anywhere in the world.
  • Foundations, fixing and craneage where the scale calls for it, carried out by the team who made the piece.
  • Sited with your setting in mind, considering sightlines, light and the way you move through the space.
  • Care and aftercare on handover, so the work holds its presence for generations.
Working with your team

Hand in hand with your garden designer

The finest gardens are a collaboration, and sculpture is at its most powerful when it belongs to the whole scheme. Charles works closely with your garden designer, landscape architect or interior designer, so the piece is conceived, scaled, lit and sited as one considered whole, not placed as an afterthought.

Whether your garden is being newly designed or already established, we join the conversation at whatever stage suits, and hold the design intent of your team throughout. The result feels inevitable, as though it could stand nowhere else.

How your commission unfolds

A considered process, personally led

One studio and one point of contact, from the first conversation to the day your sculpture is installed.

01

Conversation

We talk through your space, your idea and the scale, material and budget that suit it. A call or a private studio visit, in confidence.

02

Design & approval

Charles develops the design with drawings and, where it helps, a scale model in clay. You see and approve it before any making begins.

03

Made by hand

Your piece is crafted in our studio and cast in bronze at our UK foundry where required, then finished and patinated by hand.

04

Delivery & installation

We deliver and install in your garden or space worldwide, working with your designers, and remain on hand for the life of the work.

Why collectors choose Charles

Made by our own hands, made to last

Every private commission is conceived and crafted by Charles and his small team, from raw material to final finish. There is no outsourcing of the making, and no loss of the original vision. Beneath the artistry is an engineer's discipline: a command of structure, weight and longevity that lets a piece stand in a garden or a gallery for generations.

An RHS Chelsea Silver-Gilt medal winner, exhibited at Royal Ascot and the Cheltenham Gold Cup and commissioned by private collectors worldwide, Charles handles every commission personally and in the strictest confidence. An artist's vision, an engineer's discipline.

Private commissions, answered

How much does a private commission cost?

Private commissions begin from around £25,000 and rise with scale, material and complexity. We give a clear, considered figure once we understand the piece and its setting, before any making begins, and every commission is handled in confidence.

Will I see the design before it is made?

Always. Charles develops the design through drawings and, where it helps, a scale model in clay. Nothing is made until you have seen and approved it.

Do you deliver and install in my garden?

Yes. We manage the full delivery and installation in your garden, grounds or interior, including foundations, fixing and craneage where needed, anywhere in the world. The piece is installed by the people who made it.

Can you work with my garden designer or landscaper?

Gladly. We regularly collaborate with garden designers, landscape architects and interior designers, joining at whatever stage suits so the sculpture is integrated into the wider scheme rather than added to it.

How long does a commission take?

Most private commissions take from three to nine months, depending on scale and whether the piece is fabricated in steel or cast in bronze. We agree a realistic timeline with you at the design stage.

Can I visit the studio?

Private studio visits are warmly welcomed by appointment at Wolds Farm, Tring, where you can meet Charles and see work being made.
