Watching Fox Sculpture Rustic

Graceful, alert, and quietly powerful — our handcrafted Fox Sculpture captures the essence of one of Britain’s most iconic woodland creatures. Forged by hand in our rural Hertfordshire workshop, each piece is shaped from solid steel using traditional blacksmithing techniques, giving it both lifelike presence and lasting strength.

With its poised stance and flowing tail, the sculpture exudes character and movement, making it a striking focal point for gardens, estates, and countryside homes. Finished in your choice of rustic or galvanised steel, it weathers beautifully in all seasons—a lasting tribute to British wildlife and artisanal craftsmanship.

Rustic Patina Watching Fox Sculpture

An ideal sculpture for any countryside or wildlife enthusiast, the Fox Sculpture features tones that blend seamlessly into natural surroundings, creating harmony and making it perfectly suited to any garden or outdoor space. With foxes being a prolific part of the wildlife in Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire, Charles has spent time observing, studying, and learning their distinctive traits. This deep understanding allows him to breathe life into each sculpture, ensuring every piece is truly one of a kind.

The creation process begins in the most traditional way—pencil to paper. In his studio, Charles hand-sketches each design, capturing the fox’s movement, character, and lifelike presence before determining the final measurements and dimensions. Once the sketch is complete, it’s transferred onto a large steel footplate using artists’ chalk. This full-scale outline may remain on the floor for up to a week while Charles carefully edits and refines the drawing until he’s completely satisfied.

From here, the outline is hand-bent using 8mm or 10mm mild steel bar, ensuring every curve matches the design. The welded frame is then assembled and stood upright—revealing the sculpture’s true scale. This is a critical stage, where Charles and the team inspect the form for any imperfections or adjustments needed. Next, 6mm or 8mm mild steel bars are individually hand-bent and cut to create the fox’s muscle definition, body depth, and flowing movement. This stage is where the sculpture truly begins to come to life. As the team begins infilling the body, limbs, and facial features, the animal’s dynamic pose and powerful structure start to emerge.

Finer details such as the bushy tail, nose, and ears are then handcrafted. At this point, traditional blacksmithing techniques come into play—using a 1920s power hammer, the forge, and an anvil to enhance the sculpture’s form and texture. Once assembled, the piece moves on to its finishing stages. The rustic patina is developed using our in-house, all-natural, non-toxic solution—a carefully blended mix designed to produce a warm, golden-orange hue that matures beautifully outdoors. Finally, the fox’s distinctive white-tipped tail and white chest are added—bringing “Mr. Fox” to life with a charming, characterful flair. This final touch completes a sculpture that is not only built to endure but designed to captivate.
