Designed and handcrafted by Charles Elliott Sculpture, this striking work may be commissioned in steel or bronze, with material and finish chosen to suit personal preference and setting. In steel, finishes include oxidised patina, hot-dipped zinc, or professionally applied painted finishes, offering a refined, architectural presence. In bronze, the sculpture is finished in Verdigris Bronze, Traditional Dark Bronze, or Polished Bronze, each individually patinated and hand-finished to achieve depth, warmth, and tactile richness.
Every element is formed and finished by hand, reflecting the meticulous craftsmanship and considered detail that define each sculpture.
Inspired by nature, the sculpture beautifully contrasts weather-aged patina on the outside with radiant, fresh gold on the inside. Perfect as a striking garden focal point or a sophisticated interior piece, it can also be custom-scaled and internally illuminated to suit your space.
Sizes & Proportions: Available in three refined scales: 100 cm, 150 cm, and 200 cm (approximately 39 in, 59 in, and 79 in), each carefully proportioned to retain the sculpture’s balance and presence.
Bespoke dimensions may also be commissioned, including 65 cm (26 in) and 125 cm (49 in), with additional larger custom sizes available by request.
One of our most popular world renown sculpture; The Sail Sphere Sculpture. The method in which these sculptures are created & for that matter even started; is simple old-fashioned pencil to paper, this is where his ideas start to come to life. A sketch will be hand drawn by Charles within his studio, giving the sphere details & design prior to establishing sizes, measurements & dimensions. Once Charles is happy with the design , the “hanging basket” style mold frames will be placed on to the foot plate ready for each hand textured sail piece to be placed.
Each sail is carefully cut out in a selection of sizes before being heated to unimaginable temperatures enabling the team to then hand texture each piece with our 1920’s power hammer. The fine tuning of each piece is then popped onto the anvil whilst till smoulderingly hot to be shaped as required, the pieces are then ready to be carefully placed around the mold slowly forming the flawless spherical shape intended.
The spheres are created in 2 halves to ensure the perfect spherical shape. The two halves will be lifted off the mold frames & lowered down to be welded & infilled once safely together. Once each piece is in place & the team are happy the sphere is ready for the finishing process. Once entire, the sphere will undergo a sand blasting process to ensure an immaculate end article no matter which finish is chosen. For all of our spheres we offer the finish of the luxurious rustic patina, adding that stunning orangey toned finish or another option is our hot zinc galvanise finished, giving not only the longevity due to the process but providing a life long stunning silvery grey effect.
These particular spheres are even available in a selection of carefully selected hand painted finishes, which include our traditional verdigris & gold and the modern popular matte black & copper. We are even able to offer full powder coat colours from the RAL colour chart should you wish to have your own twist on the finishes. With all of the options available above & the option of an array of sizes, patterns & styles make this popular sphere suitable for pretty it makes our spheres a popular choice of pretty much any garden or outdoor space.
