Elegant, playful, and full of charm, our Flamingo Sculpture brings a touch of exotic beauty to British gardens and outdoor spaces. Hand-forged in steel by our skilled team at Wolds Farm, each piece captures the slender form, curved neck, and poised stance of this iconic bird in striking detail. Whether placed by a pond, among tall grasses, or as a standalone feature, the flamingo adds a sense of lightness and character to any setting.
Finished in a choice of rustic, galvanised, or powder coated finishes, it’s designed to weather naturally and stand gracefully for years to come — a unique blend of sculpture, style, and craftsmanship.
A striking sculpture for any art or nature lover, our handcrafted Flamingo is a timeless piece that blends gracefully into natural surroundings. With its flowing form and warm, earthy tones, it brings harmony and elegance to any garden or outdoor space. The creative process begins with a traditional approach—pencil to paper. In his studio, Charles sketches each design by hand, capturing the unique posture, movement, and character of the flamingo. These initial drawings help establish the scale, measurements, and proportions before construction begins.
Once the design is finalised, it’s transferred onto a large metal footplate using artists’ chalk. This full-size outline can remain on the floor for up to a week while Charles refines, adjusts, and perfects the composition. With the outline complete, the framework begins to take shape. Using 8mm or 10mm mild steel bar, Charles hand-bends each curve to match the design. Once welded, the bare frame is stood upright—revealing the sculpture’s full scale and allowing the team to identify any necessary refinements.
Next, 6mm or 8mm mild steel bars are carefully bent and cut to form the contours and details of the flamingo’s body. This is where the sculpture truly comes to life. As Charles and the team begin to infill the frame, the form of the bird emerges—feathers, limbs, body movement, and delicate curves all start to take shape in steel. The finer features—such as the wing feathers, beak, and feet—are then crafted by hand.
This is where traditional blacksmithing techniques come into play. Tools like our 1920s power hammer, forge, and anvil help refine these elements, adding texture and depth to the sculpture. The final stage is the finishing process. We apply a rustic patina using our in-house, all-natural solution—a carefully developed blend of non-toxic ingredients that creates a golden, orangey-brown finish. Over time, this patina matures beautifully, helping the sculpture integrate seamlessly into its outdoor surroundings.
