3/4 Size Stag & Doe Sculpture

Unique, bold, and full of rustic charm — our Horseshoe Stag Sculptures are a creative fusion of rural heritage and sculptural artistry. Handcrafted from individually welded, reclaimed horseshoes, each stag is a one-of-a-kind piece that celebrates the strength and elegance of this iconic woodland animal.

From the striking antlers to the proud stance, every detail is carefully formed by our team of artisans at Wolds Farm in the British countryside. Available in ¾-size or full-scale options and finished in a range of natural patinas, these sculptures make a standout feature in gardens, estates, and entranceways. A true conversation piece that combines traditional farriery roots with modern rural design.

3/4 Size Horseshoe Rustic Patina Stag & Doe Sculpture

With blacksmithing & farriery within Charles’s family, using horseshoes to create stunning sculptures seemed a no brainer. With stags & deer being the heart of Hertfordshires & Buckinghamshires wildlife, Charles has been able to study, watch & learn all of the necessary characteristics to create these stunning Stag & Doe ruggade sculptures, bring life to each one singularly meaning no two sculptures are the same. The method in which this particular sculpture is created & for that matter even started; is simple old-fashioned pencil to paper, this is where his ideas start to come to life.

A sketch will be hand drawn by Charles within his studio, giving the animal movement, character & life-like qualities prior to establishing sizes, measurements & dimensions. Once the above has been created the sketch will be transferred again by Charles on to the very large metal foot plate within the studio using artists chalk, the chalk sketch will stay on the floor for sometimes up to a week whilst Charles, edits, alters & adapts the drawing until completely happy with it.

Once happy, the outline of the sculpture will then start to be hand bent using 8mm or 10mm mild steel bar, ensuring all the curves of the outline are correct prior to welding together ready to stand up. The bare line of the sculpture is then stood up, with each leg correctly in place, the body outline can then be seen in its true size. This is the crucial moment where Charles & the team will be able to see any imperfections or complications the sculpture may well throw at them along the way.

Every single horseshoe will then be cleaned, pressed &/or hand bent & cut ready to create the muscle definitions, the depth, the movement & the character of the animal. This is truly where the sculpture comes to life; it is one of the most magical processes when creating the animalistic sculptures. As Charles & the team start to infill using the horseshoes for the body structure, the limbs, the facial features, the extraordinary muscle definitions & the movement of the animal all start to come together creating these one-of-a-kind sculptures.

Once the above is complete, the finer details like the antlers, the mane, the ears & even the feet are handcrafted – some using some of the oldest blacksmithing methods like our 1920’s power hammer, our forge & the anvil come into play to enhance the magic within the sculptures. The antlers will be made from one large piece of thick bar, which is heated to an unexplainable temperature, to enable Charles to add the depth, details & texture to the Stags antlersusing just the heat, the anvil & a blacksmithing hammer. These are some of the reasons why each sculpture is unique to the next.
